Biographies:

A Biography of Alva Adams

Alva Adams, governor of Colorado, was born in Iowa county, Wis., May 14, 1850; son of John and Eliza (Blanchard) Adams. He was educated in the public schools of Wisconsin, and in 1871 went to Colorado. He was a member of the first Colorado legislature in 1876, and was elected governor of Colorado as a Democrat for the term of 1887-89, and was re-elected by the Democratic and Silver Republican parties for the term of 1897-99. His second inauguration, Jan. 12, 1897, was reported to have cost the state less than $5.
