Biographies:

George Coke Dromgoole Biography

George Coke Dromgoole, representative, was born in Lawrenceville, Brunswick county, Va., about 1795; son of Edward Dromgoole of Sligo, Ireland. His mother was English. He entered the University of North Carolina in the class of 1814, but was not graduated. He was admitted to the bar and practised law in his native state at Gholsonville, Belfast, Gaston and Summit. He was a representative in the state legislature for several successive terms, a state senator, president of the senate, and a member of the second constitutional convention of Virginia. He was a representative in the 24th, 25th and 26th congresses, 1835-41, declined to be a candidate for the 27th congress and was elected to the 28th and 29th congresses, 1843-47. He died at Summit, Va., April 27, 1847.
