Biographies:

Aaron Lyle Biography

Aaron Lyle, representative, was born in Northampton county, Pa., Nov. 17, 1759; son of Robert and Mary (Gilleland) Lyle, and grandson of John Lyle of Scotland, afterward of county Antrim, Ireland, who settled with a brother in eastern Pennsylvania. He attended the neighboring school, and served in the Revolutionary war. He was appointed by the legislature a trustee of Jefferson college under the charter of Jan. 15, 1802, and he resigned in April, 1822. He was a representative in the Pennsylvania legislature, 1797-1801; a state senator, 1802-04, to fill a vacancy; and a representative from Pennsylvania in the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th congresses, 1809-17. He died at Cross Creek, Pa., Sept. 24, 1825.
