Contact Us! 15% - 35% off all Products ยป The Ready Store Biographies:Biographical Sketch of Frank Wilson Blackmar Frank Wilson Blackmar, educator, was born in Erie county, Pa., Nov. 3, 1854. In 1874 he completed the course of instruction in the Northwestern state normal school at Edinboro, Pa. After teaching one year in his native state he went to California, where he continued in the profession for three years. At the end of this period he entered the University of the Pacific, from which he took his degree in 1881. After graduation he taught one year in the San Jose high school and was then called to fill the chair of mathematics in the university, which he held for four years. He entered the Johns Hopkins university in 1886, where he pursued special studies for three years. He was instructor in history, 1887-'88, and of history and politics, 1888-'89. He received the degree of Ph.D. in June, 1889. At the close of his course of study at Johns Hopkins he was elected professor of history and sociology in the University of Kansas Dr. Blackmar, aside from his regular university work, has actively engaged in the movement for the education of the great body of citizens, through university extension. His principal publications include: "History of Federal and State Aid to Higher Education in the United States," "Spanish Colonization in the Southwest," "The Study of History and Sociology," "Spanish Institutions of the Southwest," "Economies" (1900); "The History of Higher Education in Kansas" (1900). Biography of William Hall Doolittle William Hall Doolittle, representative, was born in Erie county, Pa., in 1850. He was taken by his parents to Portage county, Wis., in 1859. He served in the Federal army, 1865-67, was admitted to the bar in 1871 and removed to Johnson county. Nebraska, in 1872. He served in the state legislature, 1876-77; and also held the position of U.S. district attorney for the state. He removed to Colfax, W.T., in 1880, and to Tacoma in 1887.
