Contact Us! 15% - 35% off all Products ยป The Ready Store Biographies:Sidney Harper Marsh - A Biography Sidney Harper Marsh, educator, was born at Hampden-Sidney college, Va., Aug. 29, 1825; son of the Rev. Dr. James and Lucia (Wheelock) Marsh. He acquired his preparatory education in Burlington, Vt., and Plattsburgh, N.Y., and was graduated from the University of Vermont, A.B., 1846, A.M., 1849. He was a student at the Union Theological seminary, 1851-52, was ordained to the Congregational ministry in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 1, 1853, and removed in the same year to Forest Grove, Ore., where he served as president of Pacific university, 1854-77, and continued to teach there until his death. He was married, May 28, 1860, to Eliza Haskell of North Bloomfield, Ohio. The University of Vermont gave him the degree of D.D. in 1862. He died at Forest Grove, Ore., Feb. 2, 1879. |
