A Short Biography of Frank Wakeley Gunsaulus

Frank Wakeley Gunsaulus, clergyman, was born at Chesterville, Ohio, Jan. 1, 1838; son of Joseph and Mary (Hawley) Gunsaulus, and a descendant of Reginald Gonsalius Montanus, a Spanish martyr of the sixteenth century. He attended the public schools, was graduated from the able Wesleyan university in 1875, and was married in 1875 to Anna, daughter of George Long of Parsons, W.Va. He studied theology at Ohio Wesleyan university, and in the same year was ordained to the Methodist ministry. In 1879 he entered the Congregational ministry. He was pastor of the Eastwood Congregational church, Columbus, Ohio, 1879-81; pastor at Newtonville, Mass., 1881-85; of the Brown Memorial church, Baltimore, Md., 1885-87; of Plymouth church, Chicago, 1887-99, and of Central church, Chicago, from 1899. He was lecturer at Yale theological seminary in 1893, and professorial lecturer at the University of Chicago. In 1893 he was made president of the Armour institute of technology, Chicago. He received the degree of D.D. from Beloit in 1887. He is the author of: The Transfiguration of Christ (1886); Monk and Knight (1890); Phidias and Other Poems (1892); Songs of Night and Day (1894); Loose Leaves of Song (1895); Life of William Ewart Gladstone (1898); The Man of Galilee (1899), and numerous contributions to periodicals.
