She attended the seminary at Aurora, N.Y., and in 1835 was married to William Henry Ellet, chemist. She contributed frequently to current literature and published many volumes, including: Pellicoe's Euphemia of Messina, a translation (1834); Teresa Contarini (1835); Poems (1885);Scenes in the Life of Joanne of Sicily (1840); Characters of Schiller (1842): Family Pictures from the Bible (1849); Evenings at Woodlawn (1850); Domestic History of the American Revolution (1850); Watching Spirits (1851); Women of the American Revolution (1851); Pioneer Women of the West (1852); Novelettes of the Musicians (1852); Summer Rambles in the West (1853); The Practical Housekeeper; a Cyclop?dia of Domestic Economy (1857); Women Artists in all Ages and Countries (1861); Queens of American Society (1867); and Court Circles of the Republic (with Mrs. R. E. Mack, 1869). She died in New York city, June 3, 1877. |
New York Facts: Wayne County Facts: Seat: LyonsEstablished: 1823 Formed from: Ontario and Seneca Additional Local History Notes: The 1854 Gazetteer of the United States by Thomas Baldwin shows: SODUS POINT, a post-village of Wayne county, New York, is situated at the entrance of Sodus bay, and on Lake Ontario, 30 miles W. S. W. from Oswego, and about 210 miles by railroad from Albany. It has a good harbor, and is favorably situated for trade, being at the terminus of the Sodus canal, which connects with the Erie canal, and of the Sodas Point and Southern railroad, which joins the Erie railroad at Elmira. Sodus Point is situated 84 meters above sea level. |
