Contact Us! 15% - 35% off all Products ยป The Ready Store Biographies:A Biography of Fox Holden Fox Holden, educator, was born at North Lansing, N.Y., Aug. 17, 1849; son of William and Sarah (Walker) Holden, and grandson of John and Betsey (Parmeter) Holden. He was prepared for college at the Ithaca academy, and was graduated from Cornell university in 1872. After leaving the university he was principal of the Trumansburg academy, 1872-73; of the Addison Union school, 1873-74, and in 1875 was elected the first principal of the Ithaca high school. Resigning this position, he took a course at the Albany law school, was admitted to the bar in 1881, and for a short time practised his profession in that city. In 1882 he was chosen superintendent of the Plattsburgh schools, and on Dec. 12, 1889, first principal of the Plattsburgh normal school. Resigning this position in 1892, he accepted the position of superintendent of the Olean, N.Y., city schools. Syracuse university conferred on him the degree of A.M. in 1883. |
