He removed to Cincinnati, Ohio, at an early age and became a merchant. He held various local offices; was state senator, 1862-65, and a representative from the 1st district of Ohio in the 39th and 40th congresses, 1865-69. He was again state senator, 1880-82, and thereafter devoted much time to literary work, publishing several novels and editing the Cincinnati Times. He died in Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb. 9, 1888. |
