Contact Us! 15% - 35% off all Products ยป The Ready Store Biographies:A Biography of Julius Adelbert Leavitt Julius Adelbert Leavitt, educator, was born in Gouverneur, N.Y., March 4, 1852; son of Halsey Carroll and Romanda (Leach) Leavitt, and grandson of Benjamin and Cynthia (Ashley) Leavitt. He was graduated from Brown university in 1875, and studied at Newton Theological institution, 1875-76; was ordained to the Baptist ministry at Grafton, Vt., June 24, 1876; was pastor of churches at Grafton, Vt., 1876-77; Essex, Conn., 1877-80; Beloit, Kan., 1880-82, and Leavenworth, Kan., 1882-84; was state Sunday-school missionary for Illinois, 1885-90, and was elected president of Ewing college in 1890. He was married, May 30, 1876, to Isabelle I. Brown, of Providence, R.I., and secondly, on Dec. 29, 1881, to Lillie H. Lemen, of Coilingsville, I11. the honorary degree of D.D. was conferred on him by La Grange college, Mo., in 1896. He was editor of the Baptist Scintillations, and became associate editor of the Baptist News in 1896. |
