He was educated in Ohio, at Geauga seminary, Western Reserve eclectic institute, Bethany college, and was graduated from Oberlin college in 1861. He was president of Eureka college, 1864-72 and 1877-81; professor of sacred history in Kentucky university, 1874-76; president of Butler university, 1881-86; chancellor of Garfield university, 1886-90; regent of the Southern Illinois state normal university, Carbondale, 1893-97, and dean of Bible college, Drake university, from 1897. He received the degree of LL. D. He is the author of The Divine Demonstration ? a Text-book of Christian Evidence; and The New Education. |
