Amanda Bartlett Harris Biographical Sketch

Amanda Bartlett Harris, author, was born in Warner, N.H., Aug. 15, 1824; daughter of Harrison Gray and Mary (Bartlett) Harris; granddaughter of Richard and Lydia (Atherton) Harris, and of Richard and Mary (Currier) Bartlett, and a descendant of Thomas Harris, one of the settlers of Ipswich, Mass., as early as 1636, and Martha Lake, his wife, and also a descendant of Richard Bartlett, who came to Newbury, Mass., in 1635. She received an academic education and from girlhood was engaged in writing. She contributed (under different names) to many periodicals, and is the author of: How We Went Birds' Nesting (1882); Wild Flowers and Where They Grow (1882); Door-Yard Folks (1883); Pleasant Authors for Young Folks (1884); Old School Days (1886); American Authors for Young Folks (1887); and The Luck of Edenhall (1888), and also the editor of an Autograph Birthday Book for Young People (1881); and The Little Folks Every-Day-Book (1881).
