Additional Local History Notes: The 1854 Gazetteer of the United States by Thomas Baldwin shows: NICOLLET, a county in the S. E. part of Minnesota, has an area of 1240 square miles. It is bounded on the N. by the North fork of Crow river, on the S. by the Minnesota river, and intersected by the South fork of Crow river, and by the Wita Kantu. The county contains several small lakes. The surface is undulating or level; the soil in some parts is productive. This county is not included in the census of 1850. Capital, Traverse des Sioux. |
