(Smith) Fernald, and grandson of Eben and Sophronia (Wasgatt) Fernald. He was graduated from the University of Maine, S.B., 1885, S.M., 1888, and from Johns Hopkins university, receiving the degree of Ph.D. in 1890. He was elected a member of the Society of naturalists; the American morphological society, and the Association of economic entomologists. He devoted special attention to economic entomology and was state zo?logist of Pennsylvania, 1898-99. He was professor of zo?logy in the Pennsylvania state college, 1890-99, and in 1899 was made professor of entomology in the Massachusetts agricultural college, and associate entomlogist of the Massachusetts Hatch experiment station. |
