He was the son of a farmer, and received a liberal education, studying theology at Meadville, Pa., and at Cambridge, Mass. He was ordained a minister of the Unitarian society and preached for some years at Haverhill and Chelsea, Mass. He was editor of The Liberal Christian, New York city, 1866-70, and in the latter year transferred his services to the Golden Age, of which Theodore Tilton was then editor. He was later on the editorial staff of the New York Graphic, The Evening Express, and the New York Star, and was connected with the last named journal at the time of his death which occurred in New York city, Dec. 11, 1883. |
