He removed to Springfield, Mass., in 1849, where he acquired his education. He was employed as a clerk in the office of the Massachusetts life insurance company, and in 1857 went to Chicago to take charge of the books of the western department of the company. In 1860 he entered the groin and provision commission business, and was president of the board of trade of Chicago in 1882. He was a representative in the 48th congress, 1883-85. He died in Springfield, Mass., Aug. 19, 1896. |
