Biographies:

Charles J. Boatner Biographical Sketch

Charles J. Boatner, representative, was born at Columbia, in the parish of Caldwell, La., Jan. 23, 1849. Losing his father at an early age, he resided with his uncle, and had the benefit of private instruction until 1865. In 1866 he obtained employment in the clerk's and sheriff's offices, and was admitted to the bar in 1870. In 1876 he was elected to the state senate and served until 1878, after which he resigned and moved to Monroe, La. He was elected a representative in the 51st, 52d, 53d and 54th congresses, 1889-97. He died in New Orleans, La., March 21, 1903.
