Excepting a few small prairies, the county was originally covered with a dense forest of the most useful deciduous trees. In 1850 this county produced 216,173 bushels of corn; 76,750 of wheat; 27,037 of oats, and 2707 tons of hay. It contained 6 churches, 2 newspaper offices, and 1500 pupils attending public schools. The county is liberally supplied with water-power. Capital, Huntington. Population, 7850. |
