Biographies:

Albert J. Hopkins Biographical Sketch

Albert J. Hopkins, representative, was born in DeKalb county, Ill., Ang. 15, 1846. He was graduated at Hillsdale college, Mich., in June, 1870, and was admitted to the bar, practising at Aurora, Ill. He was state's attorney of Kane county, 1872-76; a member of the Republican state central committee, 1878-80; presidential elector on the Blaine and Logan ticket in 1884, and a Republican representative in the 49th-57th congresses inclusive, 1885-1903. In the 56th congress he served as chairman of the select committee on the census and as a member of the committees on merchant marine and fisheries and ways and means.
