A Short Biography of Joseph Albert Booker

Joseph Albert Booker, educator, was born at Portland, Ark., Dec. 26, 1859; son of Albert and Mary (Punsard) Booker. His father and mother were negro slaves. He was educated at the public schools and at a normal school in Arkansas, and was graduated from the Roger Williams university, Nashville, Tenn., in 1886, with the degree of A.B. In 1887 he was elected president of the Arkansas Baptist college, an institute for the education of negro youths.
